It’s time to fearlessly face a new world.

Many nonprofit leaders have been left shaken; shell shocked, unsure of how to operate in a post Covid world. Those who survived… and most of us did, should now take stock of our operations with a renewed faith in our mission and a boat load of optimism. Today, the way we staff our programs, how we communicate with our constituents and take stock of our financial well-being, and the way we do business has forever changed. Many nonprofit leaders are suffering from the anxiety and stress of scrambling to find the best way forward. In counseling my nonprofit clients, I urge them to take a moment to grieve the losses and then pick themselves up and look to an exciting new way forward.  The status quo no longer works, and important organizations simply cannot afford to be frozen by today’s challenges.

We must look to the future as an opportunity for positive organizational, operational and social change. With a can-do approach, out-of-the-box thinking, and a ‘no is not an option’ attitude, we can easily accept what is, and move on.  Many nonprofit leaders will be tempted to pick up where everything left off before the crisis hit, but to do so would be to miss the opportunities that abound. The people we serve, and our community are counting on us to prevail, and with that in mind it’s time to shift our mindset, embrace change and lay the groundwork that will make us less susceptible to future crisis, and in doing so, make today the start of a great and transformational awakening.

Factoid. The world’s billionaires did extremely well during the coronavirus pandemic, growing their already-huge fortunes by more that 27%.  In the USA, the world’s most generous country, the preponderance of the super wealthy stepped up in a big way to help individuals, communities and nonprofits weather the storm.
